Nintendo E3 Spotlight Impressions for Every Game

Hats Off to Nintendo!

The annual gamer’s hype holiday week is finally here! The big gaming expo E3 is in full swing, and the major companies have all given their press conferences. In Nintendo’s case, as in previous years, the presentation came in the form of the web broadcast titled the “Nintendo Spotlight.” Although I still miss the live press conferences with cheering, the Spotlight was an exciting event. My wife and I did cheering of our own and recorded our impressions directly after the event, which you can see below.

Here is the Video Version, with fresh reactions directly after the show!

Nintendo had an important job ahead of itself. Having just released the Nintendo Switch, the company had to convince the public that there were great games on the horizon. Based on the showing, Nintendo went all out with the message that it was worth it to have the new console. Here are my impressions of each game trailer and reveal.

Here’s the Nintendo Spotlight: E3 2017, if you missed it.

Super Mario Odyssey – Mario’s New Ghost Trick!

I’ve put Super Mario Odyssey on the top of my Switch wish list before, so there’s no doubt I was hyped for this game. But with the possibility of brand new announcements, this game wasn’t on the top of my mind. I was initially disappointed when SMO ended up being the Spotlight’s final trailer.

Super Mario Odyssey Boxart
Just look at that box art!

But boy, am I glad that Nintendo ended with this. Somehow, SMO’s trailer exceeded my expectations, introducing a new mechanic where Mario can possess other creatures by throwing his googly-eyed hat at them. The first creature we saw him possess was a frog, and that instantly got me excited for the classic Super Mario Bros. 3 power-up, Frog Mario. But he didn’t stop there. Mario then possessed many more creatures and inanimate objects, including a Goomba, Bullet Bill, and even a T-rex! He even possesses a regular-sized human!

Super Mario Odyssey Frog.png
Return of Frog Mario

I was already excited about SMO’s Super Mario 64-style sandbox platforming and hat-throwing shenanigans, but Mario’s new possession ability blows my mind away. There’s so much that can now be done with the gameplay. We saw elements of it when Mario possessed an electric charge going through a wire to travel from building to building (similarly to how Inklings get around) and when he took control of a pole and propelled himself upwards like a catapult. I can imagine that Mario possessing a car would let him drive around New Donk City and becoming a Cheep-Cheep would help him swim.

Mario Goomba Odyssey E3.jpg
I’ve always wanted to play as a Goomba with a mustache.

It seems every possessable creature has its own controls and abilities, which means the gameplay will be ever-changing. It reminds me of several games: The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask mask powers, Banjo-Kazooie/Tooie’s magical transformations (including a T-rex!), and Space Station Silicon Valley – an underrated N64 game in which you played as an electronic chip that inhabited and controlled robotic animals. I can’t believe how much this single mechanic elevates my excitement and curiosity about what wonders this game will hold. I now wait with more bated breath than ever before for Super Mario Odyssey to arrive, which will be sooner than expected, thanks to its October 27 release date!

Super Mario Odyssey Dinosaure.png
The trailer started with a T-rex, no joke. I had no idea what to expect.

Metroid Prime 4 Announced!

Nintendo finally did it. In one of the Spotlight’s biggest announcements, Nintendo revealed that Metroid Prime 4 was coming to the Switch, finally bringing bounty hunter Samus Aran back into the limelight. Fans have been clamoring for a new Prime game ever since the poorly received Metroid Other M. Metroid Prime Federation Force for the 3DS was met with backlash as the public demanded Samus. Hopefully, this announcement will quell and warm the hearts of many, showing us that Nintendo still respects one of its most well-known franchises. Although we don’t know much about this game, besides the fact that it seems Retro Studios is not behind it, I look forward to this legendary IP getting a Switch release.

Metroid Prime 4 Logo smaller.jpg
What does the logo tell us about the game? Hmm…

As a bonus, Nintendo also revealed Metroid: Samus Returns for the Nintendo 3DS. It’s a remake of Metroid II, a Game Boy game that could really use an upgrade. The original was difficult to play due to a lack of color, meaning all pathways looked very similar. The 3DS revamp looks wonderful, with upgraded graphics and plenty of color, making the Metroids’ home planet of SR388 come to life. I’m actually more excited for this game, as I have been wishing for a 2D Metroid for a long time. Although it’s a remake, I have hope for this leading to future 2D titles.

Triumphant Return

And hey, somehow my predictions for both a 2D and 3D Metroid were fulfilled this year! How were your predictions for Nintendo’s event?

Core Pokémon Game Announced for Switch!

We actually had a Pokémon Direct the week prior to Nintendo’s Spotlight, and it was disappointing. Pokkén Tournament DX, an upgrade to the Wii U’s Tekken-esque Pokémon fighter was announced for Switch. While I’m excited for that, I was hoping for a mainline Pokémon game to come to Switch, whether a third version of Pokémon Sun and Moon or the next generation. During the Pokémon Direct, Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon was announced for 3DS. I didn’t find the news compelling, mostly because I just played Sun and Moon half a year ago, and also because it wasn’t coming to Switch. Don’t get me wrong. The 3DS can still use more games, but why did Sun and Moon need an upgrade so soon? I’m getting horrible Pokémon Black 2 and White 2 flashbacks.

Pokken Tournament DX.png
If the next Pokemon Switch game can look as great as Pokken Tournament DX…

Thankfully, the Spotlight revealed that Switch owners were also getting a piece of the Pokémon pie, with a new core entry in the series coming to Switch. We know absolutely nothing about it, though since we’re already getting Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon, I’m assuming this upcoming game will be the next generation. Regardless of what it ends up being, the Switch is going to be perfect for the series. We still have portability thanks to the Switch’s handheld mode, and we’ll finally get a mainline entry playable on the big screen!

Two New Switch Platformers: Kirby and Yoshi!

The cutest Nintendo mascots are getting new entries on the Nintendo Switch, and from what little we’ve seen, they look fun! The currently untitled Kirby looks like the Wii game Kirby’s Return to Dreamland at first glance, offering up to 4-player cooperative play. Upon closer inspection, elements from other games also seem to return including the animal buddies from Kirby’s Dream Land 2 and 3, as well as the possibility of mixing two powers a la Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards. The latter is a favorite of mine, and I would be ecstatic if we could have all those unique power-ups back, particularly that dual light saber. Also, the broom power-up is back. Yay?

Kirby Nintendo E3.jpg
Gives me a Kirby Super Star vibe too, now that I think about it.

Yoshi’s new untitled game looks impressive too, taking a page from Yoshi’s Woolly World, and sticking the green dino into a cardboard world. As plain as cardboard may sound, it looks stunning in the trailer, like arts-and-crafts popping out of the screen. And speaking of popping out, there seems to be some kind of depth mechanic where Yoshi can shoot eggs at enemies in the background and foreground. It suspiciously sounds like a 3DS mechanic, as if this game were originally planned for that system. The game looks so beautiful though, and I appreciate the higher fidelity that the Switch will provide.

Not to be confused with the NES puzzle game of the same name.

Fire Emblem Warriors – New Characters Revealed!

I loved Hyrule Warriors and Hyrule Warriors Legends, investing many hours into both. The Fire Emblem version of this Dynasty Warriors form of gameplay is coming to the Switch soon, and I’m thrilled thinking about what characters and places will be in the final game. We finally got some character reveals: Corrin (female), Ryoma, and Xander from Fire Emblem Fates will be joining the original hero Marth and Awakening’s Chrom. We’ll also be getting original characters – royal twins Rowan and Lianna. The gameplay Nintendo showed off during its Treehouse Live segment seemed pretty par for course, with FE aesthetics and level-up mechanics being primary differences. Additionally, there will be a Coliseum mode so you can pit Ryoma and Xander in a battle to the death, once and for all. The Fates characters look great, though I’m wondering 1) if we’ll see any more Fates characters and 2) what happened to male Corrin? I hope more characters are revealed in the weeks leading up to its release!

Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle

Mario & Rabbids Kingdom Battle.jpg
Ok, I kind of like Rabbid Peach taking a selfie.

The rumored crossover is happening! Mario is teaming up with the Raving Rabbids in an original tactical RPG developed by Ubisoft. At first, upon hearing the rumors, I wasn’t thrilled about the game, especially since I’m not a big fan of the silly Minions, I mean Rabbids. I quickly changed my mind once I saw the reveal trailer at Ubisoft’s conference. Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle looks like nothing we’ve seen for Mario. I’ve heard it’s like X-COM, but having never played that, this would certainly a new experience for me. It looks more fun than Paper Mario has been recently, at least! I like the idea of hiding behind cover, and throwing allies in the air (which actually also happens in Disgaea 5). The idea of Mario and friends using customizable guns sounds awesome. While I still don’t like the Rabbids, I’d be willing to give this game a try. Plus, how can you not want a game, for which the series’ creators presented it like this?

Miyamoto Yves E3.jpg
Probably the best moment of E3 – Shigeru Miyamoto & Yves Guillemot: Locked ‘n’ Loaded

Everything Else – Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Rocket League, Mario & Luigi

There were a handful of other games during both the Spotlight event and the subsequent Treehouse Live segments. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is shaping up to be a huge game, as its predecessors. I didn’t see much of its Treehouse Live presentation, but based on the trailer, the game definitely looks more anime than it ever has, and I like the style! Rocket League is another port coming to the Switch. I’ve never played this car-battling soccer game, but the Switch-exclusive bonus of hats on cars has me more enticed than it should.

Rocket League Switch Mario Hat E3.jpg
So does that mean Mario possessed the car or what?

During Bethesda’s press conference, the company revealed that Skyrim was coming to the Switch, and amiibo functionality would allow your character to have Link’s clothes from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. And while we’re on the topic of Zelda, the new DLC for BotW looks great, with the first set providing some great costumes and harder trials, and the second set sporting a juicy tease about the Champions. Will we be playing as the Champions? I’m now suddenly sold on getting the DLC. As for amiibo, we’re getting lots of them! We’re getting a Fire Emblem Warriors amiibo (another prediction come true!) of Chrom (which makes my wife happy) and Tiki. The Metroid series is getting more amiibo representation with a sweet Samus based on Metroid II, as well as a squishy Metroid figurine… YES! We’re also getting champion amiibo from Breath of the Wild and classy wedding outfit figurines for Mario, Peach, and Bowser. Koopa Troopa and Goomba finally get amiibo, specifically promoting the following final game.

Super Mario Odyssey amiibo.jpg
Love the Super Mario Odyssey outfits and poses!

A remake of Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, the very first game in the series was announced for 3DS. The latest game (and my first review here) Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam, was only decent. So hopefully this game will remind developers how fun and inventive the original was. It also comes with a bonus game, Bowser’s Minions, in which you play as Mario enemies to gather troops for Bowser. It looks moderately interesting, but the main attraction is worth it for me already.

Conclusion

As a big Nintendo fan, I was very much anticipating Nintendo’s E3 Spotlight. And I’m happy to say the company delivered what its fans were hoping for: Metroid Prime 4’s reveal and Pokémon Switch’s announcement. Unfortunately, they were only mentioned in name, but at least we now know they’re coming. And of course, Super Mario Odyssey’s new possession mechanic trailer was absolute bliss. All I could think about after the spotlight was what I wanted to see Mario transform into, and I felt like a kid who had just seen the most amazing magic trick. I am extremely hyped for the mustachioed plumber’s next big game. Along with the other reveals, Nintendo had a great showing, that I am sure pleased many hardcore fans.

What did you think of Nintendo’s E3 2017 Spotlight? What were your favorite game reveals and trailers? What did you wish was there? What were your immediate reactions and emotions following the event? Which of your predictions came true? Please share your thoughts in the comments section! Thank you for watching and reading!

  1. Wow! Nintendo certainly took the spotlight on E3! I feel Nintendo delivered on the big things that fans wanted to see—and beyond! It was a good balance between fleshing out games already announced and revealing some exciting new titles. And some of our predictions actually came true! Like Mr. Panda’s prediction of a new Metroid Prime game! Amazing! I’m super hyped about Super Mario Odyssey, Fire Emblem Warriors, and the Zelda DLC. I can’t wait to play as Chrom (my waifu) and Ryoma (my other waifu)! Especially after Chrom got snubbed in Smash Bros. And can’t wait to possess the world in Super Mario Odyssey! It’s gonna be a good year.

    1. Thanks for the awesome comments, and I’m glad we could make both live reactions and impressions of the Nintendo Spotlight! I’m also happy that we made predictions together, and that at least one of our predictions came true! We actually ended up getting both 3D and 2D Metroid games! Woohoo! Between that and Metroid Prime 4, Samus is truly back! I’m also excited about the games you mentioned AND Pokemon! I can’t wait to hear more about Fire Emblem Warriors characters too. I’m hoping for Lyn and Lucina myself! And Super Mario Odyssey! *drool* This is going to be a great year for the Nintendo Switch!

    1. It multiplies Mario’s abilities tenfold. I’ve seen some creative transformations and abilities already, but I can’t imagine how many ways Super Mario Odyssey will surprise us. This mechanic reveal is literally game-changing!

  2. I loved this entire presentation. I am especially stoked for Xenoblade 2, the new Kirby game, and Super Mario Odyssey! They look AMAZING!

I am so glad they brought back the british for Xenoblade 2! I’d say the voice acting is just as good as Xenoblade’s. I can see it getting cheesy in some moments, but to me, it’s fairly solid. Am I the only one in the world NOT complaining about the new style? I get it, they look anime, but HELLO??? A lot of JRPGs are like that.

The Kirby Switch game looks awesome. It’s pretty similar to one of those cancelled prototypes, with the Helpers returning. I love Kirby with my heart and soul, so I’m glad a new game was announced for the 30th anniversary! Go, little pink puff ball! I believe in you!

I’ve been watching a bunch of Mario Odyssey’s spotlight videos. I normally don’t get all that hyped for Mario, unless if it’s one of the RPGs. I find the platformers fun, but I don’t pay all that much attention to them. But Odyssey looks SO. DAMN. GOOD. Also, the music in that trailer is amazing!
“Let’s do the Odyssey!” SO JAZZY AND GOOD I’M GONNA DIE. And Pauline’s back! I’ve always loved her modern design, so I’m glad she’s appearing in Odyssey! (Her normal outfit that isn’t the dress makes her kinda look like Carmen Sandiego.)

Also, Metroid. …I never really got into the series, shamefully. I hope the Metroid 2 remake can finally get me into it! That game looks very nice! …And ever since that Metroid amiibo has been revealed to be Squishy, I now think that Samus nicknamed that Metroid from the early games “Squishy”.

The Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga remake looks good too. I like the new story mode they added. It sounds like a fun romp!

So, yes! Nintendo stole my wallet! I was pretty surprised to see that they saved Odyssey for last, but I can see why, because they really saved the best for last. When you can get someone who isn’t all that into 3D platformers to continue watching that trailer, then you’ve done something amazing.

    1. Yes! Glad you also enjoyed the Nintendo Spotlight! It packed so much goodness into just 25 minutes! I love the anime style of Xenoblade Chronicles 2! Xenoblade Chronicles X was going in that direction, and I liked that style too. The British voice acting sounds good, though I could have sworn I also heard non-accented English in the trailer too. I really need to finish the very first Xenoblade before diving into this one.

It’s great that Kirby has a new game in time for its 25th Anniversary! The helpers give me a Kirby Super Star vibe, and I also see elements from Kirby 64 and Kirby’s Dream Land 2/3. Yoshi looks fun too. I’m happy for more multiplayer platforming goodness!

And wasn’t that trailer for Super Mario Odyssey amazing? I love that New Donk City is this revival of the original DK world, girders and all. I love that Pauline is apparently a mayor, and that it looks like she could be playing a big part. Maybe this will resolve the Peach/Pauline rivalry! The vocal music sounds great too! I’m not used to Mario having vocal songs, especially one so catchy as this, so I just had to use it for our video!

I love the “Squishy” Metroid, and I can’t wait for both the squishy amiibo and Metroid II. The original was okay, but my desire for 2D Metroid and how much better it looks compared to the Game Boy graphics has me hyped.

The Mario & Luigi remake looks good, and the original was great too. I hope from here on out, the series returns to the quality from Bowser’s Inside Story and Superstar Saga.

Thanks for your great comments! It was such a great presentation to watch, and I’m sure Nintendo is eating a lot of wallets from the game announcements. The amiibo announcements alone ate mine, haha. October 27th can’t come soon enough! I want to do the Odyssey!

  3. Really enjoyed their E3 showing. Odyssey looks amazing and I was thrilled to see some 2018 titles teased. Particularly Yoshi which looks awesome. The Metroid 3DS game looks sweet too. I never played Metroid 2, so I’m really excited about the reimagining!

    Liked by 2 people

    1. Ooh yea, then you’ll really enjoy the reimagining of Metroid II! Yoshi looks great too, from what I’ve seen. It gives me a big Yoshi’s Story vibe for some reason, even though I know they’re going with artsy aesthetics as in Yoshi’s Woolly World. Thanks for you comments!

  4. I’m intrigued by the possession mechanic in Odyssey. It reminds me of the days early on during last generation, like Syndicate. I can see myself really liking the return to the Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine style of gameplay as well.

The Mario + Rabbids thing fell flat for me, but only because it looked like things I already played before, with a Nintendo skin over the top. It makes me feel bad for saying that in light of the developer’s feelings regarding their game, but I can’t shake the feeling.

The Metroid and Pokemon announcements are huge news, but I think it’s a bad move to tease something while giving nothing to actually show for it.

I’m very happy that the Switch is getting Rocket League and Minecraft, and that Nintendo and Microsoft are going to work together. I can’t wait to play games with Nintendo owners!

So, the high point was definitely Odyssey and cross-platform play. The low point was yet ANOTHER Skyrim port.

And those Amiibo are adorable… Makes me want to get them even though I know I’ll never see one in person.

    Liked by 2 people

    1. I’ve never played Syndicate, but the possession mechanic gave me so many familiar vibes from other games that depend on transformations. The idea fits the theme of Super Mario’s power-ups so well. And a reliability on these possession mechanics is perfect for bringing back the sandbox gameplay.

As for the other “Mario game,” I’ve had no experience with games like it before, so it looks intriguing to me. It helps that everything is so much more colorful than games like X-COM. It definitely wouldn’t be the first time I enjoyed something with a skin on top… *coughHyruleWarriorscough*

It’s a shame that we’re seeing Metroid and Pokemon confirmations so early when they’re likely not coming for a while. I believe it was an act of desperation, and they needed to appease these fans and convince them to get a Switch.

Cross-play is actually huge for Nintendo. I never thought I’d be living in an age where Nintendo and Microsoft would be working together post Xbox, and that Sony would refuse to participate somehow. So backwards from what I expected! Again, I’ve never played games like Rocket League and Skyrim, so I am very excited to be playing those for the first time on the Switch.

And of course, the amiibo look great! I still wish they weren’t so rare. I got very lucky preordering this most recent set. But it’s a shame that so many will miss out because they sell out so fast. I just want others to feel the squishy Metroid!

Thanks for your awesome comments! I loved reading your thoughts!

      Liked by 1 person

      1. The squishy Metroid is definitely the one I want, but the others look cool too. I know I’ve seen many people say that they want to use the Mario and Peach figures as wedding cake toppers!

I certainly don’t have a problem with Mario + Rabbids or the mechanics of Odyssey, but I can definitely tell where they got their inspirations from. Having watched the M+R gameplay in full again, I can kinda see what they’re doing, and the merits of that choice. Nintendo has a knack for taking someone else’s idea and improving on it after all.

As for the Skryim thing, I’m just tired of seeing Bethesda port the game AGAIN. I’m glad that you’re going to finally get a chance to experience it though. Even if you’re the only new player, I’d say the fact that someone is getting to try it for the first time is a win.

        Liked by 1 person

      2. The Mario and Peach wedding amiibo would be perfect wedding cake toppers! As someone who had amiibo at his video game themed wedding (before amiibo was even a thing), it would have been the most perfect addition!

I think it’s healthy for inspiration in games. Otherwise, we get the literal “uninispired” games. M+R looks fun, and I’m excited to try something new with the Mario franchise. It’ll definitely be more fresh than what recent games in the Mario RPG series have been doing. I’m looking at you, Paper Mario!

I definitely think there are a good number of players who have stuck with just Nintendo who may be experiencing Skyrim for the first time. I’ll admit that the biggest reason for me to get excited is the Link amiibo costumes. Yes, I’m crazy. I’m not sure how well Skyrim will do yet. But that scale of a game combined with the Switch’s handheld mode worked well for Breath of the Wild, so I think it could bring more players in. It’s being published by Nintendo, and that’s huge.

  5. Great write-up and video! I’m excited for Pokemon Switch (even though I don’t have one yet), and the simply titled “Yoshi.” Also, way to call Metroid 4!

    1. Thanks very much as always for your kind words! So happy that my Metroid prediction came true, and more importantly that we’re actually getting both 2D and 3D Metroid. Still can’t believe that Samus is back in full force. Not the Federation Force kind though. 😛

  6. Glad to see you’re so excited, Nintendo is doing something right! As you may have read I’m less then thrilled. I’ll check out Xenoblade, simply because it’s one of the few RPG announced. But other then that, only a new Pokémon works for me…

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Yes, Nintendo focused on appeasing hardcore fans this time around, and it worked on me! Metroid Prime 4, core Pokemon for Switch, Yoshi, and Kirby – not to mention how fun Fire Emblem Warriors looks. Plus ending with one of the best Mario trailers I’ve ever seen, I had a great time watching the Spotlight. That possession mechanic blows my mind in a way that no other Mario trailer has done since Super Mario Galaxy 2’s years ago. Sorry to hear you weren’t as thrilled. Was there anything you were particularly looking for from the presentation? I think one announcement that would have been nice is Animal Crossing, but I’m pretty sure it’s coming in the Switch’s lifetime, just not now.

      Liked by 1 person

      1. We’ll, to me it seems that the games announced are much more of the same. Another brawler game, another platformer (Kirby and Yoshi). There didn’t seem to be much variety to me. And that went for all gaming companies.

        Liked by 1 person

      2. True. There wasn’t much variety, although I’d also say that that’s been the case for a while now, especially on other systems. Microsoft had some original games on display, so their conference might be worth checking out. Otherwise, the games industry hasn’t changed a whole lot. Despite this, Super Mario Odyssey oozed with originality, and the possession mechanic opens up gameplay to the point where I don’t even know what to expect. New takes on existing genres are always welcome for me.

  7. Nintendo hasn’t had such a good showing in years, I was blown away by the fact that they actually seem to be listening to their fans and giving them what they want. Again, I love your videos, you two – your enthusiasm is infectious! So glad I got a Switch :p

    1. Yay! Thank you so much! Your kind words mean a lot to us! I’m very happy to be a Switch owner too! Nintendo listened to fan demand, and it paid off this year. It’s amazing what this coming year of Switch games will be like compared to what the Wii U had its first year.

      1. I’m excited about Beyond Good and Evil 2 too! Though yea, we don’t know much about it or even what systems it will be on. So happy it’s finally happening!

  8. Kirby looks like a lot of fun. I am torn on Kingdom Battle. Tactical RPGs are a genre I love, but those rabbits are so annoying.

    1. Same here on the Rabbids. If it weren’t for them, the game would easily be one of my most anticipated. I’m still very intrigued by the game, but for its gameplay and not the annoying Rabbids. They remind me too much of the Minions.

    1. Yes! I didn’t expect Kirby so soon into the Switch’s life, but I’m glad he’s there. I see elements from other great Kirby games, and I think fans will like those callbacks. I didn’t yet play Kirby Planet Robobot, but the trailer made me interested in going back to play it!

  9. love the enthusiasm! I felt the same way watching the spotlight. I was at work so it was hard to contain myself, especially because I’m pretty much the only die hard Nintendo fan here.

I’m super sold on Super Mario Odyssey, watching the trailer again, it’s looks revolutionary. Who would’ve thought, this game could potentially be as crazy as Zelda. What’s Nintendo’s deal? Releasing potentially 2 of the greatest games ever in the same year?

Oh and MP4 doesn’t hurt at all 🙂 I also got super excited just hearing the music before the logo and think… could it really be?

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Thanks so much man! I’m so happy you love the enthusiasm! Also glad that you enjoyed the Spotlight!

Super Mario Odyssey looks amazing so far! To think, I was already ridiculously hyped for the sandbox elements and throwing a hat. Now, you’re telling me you can possess others by throwing your hat at them? My mind nearly exploded once they showed Mario transforming the first time. The gameplay possibilities are now nearly limitless, and I cannot wait to see what clever mechanics the developers come up with.

I also got very excited just hearing the music. The logo trailer (can we even call it that?) was enough to get me hyped, and their first trailer has a huge opportunity to grab lots of attention. I still can’t believe both Metroid Prime 4 and a 3DS remake of Metroid II are coming.

  10. Awesome Review! I watched all of the E3 press conferences and thought that Nintendo defiantly stole the show. I am very new to this site and I am trying my hand at video game reviewing as well. After looking through your site and reading a few of your reviews, I realize that I have a way to go. Keep up the good work!

  11. The only games I’m not interested in are the Switch Pokémon game and Xenoblade Chronicles 2. I don’t have time for hundred-hour games anymore. (I’ll make an exception for Mario Maker and any future maker games.) Rocket League and Mario & Luigi are a maybe. I need to see more of Rocket League before I consider buying it.

    1. Haha, to be fair, Pokemon is only 100 hours if you include post-game! I don’t mind the long games so much on the Switch, actually because of the portable mode. It’s easier to whittle down game time with the handheld than it is for consoles. It’s also why I preferred playing Xenoblade Chronicles on New 3DS as opposed to Wii, even though it looked much prettier on the console. I’d love any Maker games on the Switch, and I hope they can get around the touch screen support with Joy-Con pointer controls. I’m interested in Rocket League, as someone who’s never played it. I don’t know if I’ll like it yet or not based on what I’ve seen of the game though. I think I need to try it, so hopefully there’ll be a Switch demo. Mario & Luigi looks good, and hopefully, there’ll be a Switch version of the series coming soon! Thanks for your comments!

    1. The new Kirby Switch game looks so fun! It looks like a mix of Kirby Super Star, Kirby’s Dream Land 2/3, and Kirby 64 – all great games! 😀 Kirby and Yoshi will make a great duo on the system, and Super Mario Odyssey will be the glue that holds them all together. Can’t wait for all of them, and amiibo too! I got mine preordered, haha.

      1. Awesome, glad you were able to pre-order them! I really have my eye on the Goomba and the Koopa Troopa in particular! 🙂 Hopefully the Kirby and Yoshi games will give us some new amiibo too? And the Kirby game does look like all of those games mashed together- I’m sure it’s going to be great! 🙂

      2. I would love more plush Yoshi amiibo! I loved the woolly amiibo Yoshi and Poochy the most out of my collection so far! More Kirby amiibo is always welcome, and hopefully there can be some new character figures.

      3. I love the woolly amiibo too! That would be adorable if they had a woolly Kirby amiibo haha! I’d love to see new characters too. I doubt Rare would be on board, but I’d love to see a bunch of amiibo from the original Donkey Kong Country! 😉

      4. Yes! What about woolly Donkey Kong Country amiibo? Fuzzy monkeys! By the way, sorry if I hadn’t responded to your comments for a while. Apparently, they were in my spam folder for some reason! Hopefully, it won’t get marked there anymore, but that was really odd?

      5. Huh, that’s really weird! I always make sure to check my spam folder regularly too, because that does happen occasionally. What I hate the most is when WordPress randomly decides to unfollow someone! 😦
