Boarding the Hype Train!
E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo), one of the biggest video game conferences and annual hype holiday for gamers, is just around the corner. With a new hotly selling console under its belt, Nintendo has a huge opportunity to show off what the Switch can deliver this year. Of course, we can expect more details on Super Mario Odyssey, Fire Emblem Warriors, and Xenoblade Chronicles 2. We might even get more information on the upcoming ARMS and Splatoon 2. Following the Pokemon Direct, Nintendo might also have something brief on the newly announced Pokken Tournament DX and Pokemon Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon.
Here is the Video Version, in which we go into more detail!
But what else is in store? E3 is the place to make big announcements and reveal huge surprises. Crystal Dragon and I have each come up with five predictions that we’ve made for Nintendo’s E3 2017 Spotlight next week. Each of our predictions are in order from most likely to completely unlikely. To be fair, they’re probably all completely unlikely. Just remember that these are fun predictions and not rumors or facts…unless Nintendo makes them real next week! Enjoy!
E3 Predictions
1. ARMS, Fire Emblem Warriors amiibo
At this point, we’ve come to expect new amiibo announcements after every Nintendo Direct. As a big amiibo collector, I’m always excited about what figurines are on the horizon. I predict new amiibo lines for both ARMS and Fire Emblem Warriors. I’m already in love with the ARMS characters from the Global Testpunch and would hope to see at least five, if not all, characters receive a stretchy figurine.
Fire Emblem is also worthy of more amiibo, and with Dynasty Warriors-like Fire Emblem Warriors coming soon, I’d love to see a new line for the non-Smash characters like Chrom, Lyn, and Eliwood. And I certainly wouldn’t mind new amiibo for the characters that already have amiibo. Amiibo for all!
Crystal Dragon’s #1 – Rainbow Joy-Con Colors (all her predictions are elaborated more in video)
2. Super Smash Bros. Deluxe for Nintendo Switch
In the “sure, why not” category is Super Smash Bros. Deluxe! We got Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Pokken Tournament DX, so Smash is the next obvious choice to get the Switch upgrade. I love Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo Wii U, but I’ll admit that I didn’t play the online as much as I could have. As much as I would love a new Switch version, I don’t expect Masahiro Sakurai to be working on one, so an upgrade is the next best thing. I would love this version to include all the content from the 3DS and Switch versions. We’d have every stage plus the system-exclusive modes, Smash Run and Smash Tour, in one version. Having it all on the Switch makes sense because the original was split up just so portable gamers could also have access. I could do an entire post about characters I’d like to see, but I’ll just list the five new characters that I’d expect: Inklings (boy/girl like the Villager), Spring Man (possibly a Ribbon Girl skin), Ice Climbers (please come back!), Celica and/or Alm from Fire Emblem Echoes (I know, more Fire Emblem characters, but it sells!), and the third-party surprise of Simon Belmont from Castlevania, which would coincide with the Netflix original animated series! Also, amiibo for all of these, please?
Crystal Dragon’s #2 – Streaming services (Netflix, Hulu, Crunchyroll, etc.) on Switch
3. Donkey Kong Country Returns: Fired Up for Nintendo Switch
Okay, okay. You’re probably fired up by me even suggesting that Retro Studios is working on yet another Donkey Kong Country Returns game, but hear me out. I love the DKC franchise, and Retro has been doing an amazing job with both Returns for Wii and Tropical Freeze for Wii U. I would love to see a new DKC game for the Switch that continues off from Tropical Freeze. Instead of a wintry theme, we could have a heated one with more levels based on volcanoes, hot caverns, and resort spas. Think Super Mario Sunshine with a DKC twist. Perhaps a switch mechanic could be put in place where levels cooled down or heated up. Again, I know more people would prefer Retro to do a certain other series, but maybe another company could work on this hypothetical game. Next Level Games (Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, Punch-Out!! Wii, Metroid Prime Federation Force) or even ex-Rare company Playtonic Games (Yooka-Laylee) could do a great job with this one.
Crystal Dragon’s #3 – HD Remake of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword for Switch
4. Animal Crossing Over for Nintendo Switch
Animal Crossing is one of Nintendo’s big franchises. New Leaf for Nintendo 3DS sold very well, nearly 20 amiibo figurines surfaced within the last few years, and a mobile title is in the works. Nintendo loves its easygoing life simulator, but it surprisingly didn’t release a main entry for the Wii U. With the Nintendo Switch showing a lot of promise, it’s perfect timing to get one out for the new console/handheld hybrid. The portability would be perfect for a relaxed community-focused game like this, and it would simultaneously please fans desiring a new, proper console version. I predict the Switch version’s main draw will be the introduction of Nintendo crossover villagers and buildings. Imagine living in a village with Mushroom Houses and Hyrule Castles and townsfolk like Mario, Link, and Samus celebrating holidays with you. The regular animals would still be there, but the special characters would be randomly distributed in towns to spice things up. The full title would be: “Animal Crossing Over.”
Crystal Dragon’s #4 – Final Fantasy XV port for Switch
5. Metroid Switch
I wasn’t going to let Metroid fans down. I would love a new game properly starring bounty hunter Samus Aran for the Switch. If Retro Studios were working on it, I’d expect a Metroid Prime game, but I’m actually hoping for a new 2D Metroid game or a game that combines elements of 2D platforming and 3D first-person adventure. Although that sounds like Metroid: Other M, I’m thinking more of a game that has both elements, but in separate rooms, unlike M:OM where Samus could switch between first-person and third-person at will (or when she was given permission to). So for instance, Samus could explore a 2D map just like in Super Metroid, then certain rooms would switch the perspective to first-person 3D a la Metroid Prime. In this case, the game could be called “Metroid Switch,” matching both the gameplay and the system. I’d love any proper 2D or 3D Metroid game at this point, but this would certainly be something different for the series.
Crystal Dragon’s #5 – Final Fantasy VII Remake for Switch
Conclusion
We hope you enjoyed our list of predictions! If you haven’t already, be sure to check out our video above where we went into more detail. Neither of us knew each other’s predictions beforehand so you can witness our genuine reactions too!
Be sure to catch us again next week as we share our reactions to Nintendo’s E3 Spotlight presentation, which will be streamed live on e3.nintendo.com on Tuesday, June 13 starting at 9:30 a.m. PT / 12:30 a.m. ET (adjust for your own time zone). This is a special time of the year! Get excited, and let’s board this hype train together! Choo choo!
We had a lot of fun making these wild predictions! It would be incredible if any of them came close to being true! Although I’m pretty sure the Joy-Cons will eventually get more colors (pink preferred, please). And who doesn’t love using their console for streaming shows? It’s about time that Nintendo shares the Final Fantasy love again. In other words, just release every game ever on the Switch and we’re good. I’m just I’m sayin’… In any case, I can’t wait to see what stops E3 will pull out! (Hopefully all of them.) Yay E3 Hype Train!!!

Every game ever? Whoa, haha! Maybe if we got a huge Virtual Console, that could happen. 😉 Thanks for making these wild predictions with me! I can’t wait to see how wrong (or maybe right?) we were! I just want more great games to enjoy on the Switch and some more details on Super Mario Odyssey! 😀 E3 Hype Train!!

Hi everyone! Mr. Panda here, with predictions for the upcoming Nintendo E3 2017 Spotlight! One of the biggest video game conferences is happening next week, and the big question is what Nintendo will reveal beyond Super Mario Odyssey. Here’s what we’d love to see at this year’s E3!

I’ve love some ARMS amiibo, despite having zero interest in the game as a whole. The character designs are so rad, though!

Nintendo did a wonderful job oozing its trademark charm into the ARMS characters. I already want them in Smash, which would be another path to receiving an amiibo version! I still stand by having stretchy figurines.

Oh, now you even see the future! I think I would need your service for a couple of lotteries…:)

Haha, I wish I saw the future! For now, I can only guess it. So if you’d like to me guess random numbers for you. 😛

If you want to tell me 6 numbers between 1 and 90 this evening I’m gonna try the lottery and I’ll let you know…😀

Ok, but that means I get half the cut! 😛
Obviously, the numbers are 3DS, N64, TurboGrafx-16, Sega 32X, Xbox 360, and Atari 2600. Pretty sure they’re all between 1 and 90…

I can try 3, 64, 32, 36, 26…maybe I add 2 since today is the 40th anniversary of Apple 2. I’d love to give you half of the prize, but considering my luck, it will be dramatically close to zero. And you know how much is the half of zero…:(

You should really try 64 twice – once for Nintendo and the other for Commodore. You can do that, right?

Metroid! If that’s the only announcement Nintendo makes, I am willing to bet most of the fanbase will be happy. Come on, Nintendo, make it happen!

Yea! It’s so interesting that one series could completely win over gamers’ hearts in a press conference, but Metroid might very well be that series. I’m hoping for an announcement, and I hope the game’s quality matches the hype, unlike a certain other game.

I honestly really want to see a lot more or even just a little on the Fire Emblem title that Nintendo’s working on for the Switch. Also can’t wait to see more on Super Mario Odyssey and Pokemon Ultra Sun and Moon.

You know, it’s funny. I actually momentarily forgot about that Fire Emblem game! I completely agree and would love to know more about it! I’d like to see it taken in a new direction, similarly to what the Echoes remake did. And yes, I think Super Mario Odyssey is definitely confirmed. As excited as I am for it, I hope that’s not the only thing though. Also, I could see Ultra Sun and Moon getting some coverage on the live segments, just like last year with Sun and Moon. But I’m just not sure what to expect with that game. Hopefully, learning more about it changes my mind! Thanks for your comments and reminding me about that FE game!

With all the games and rumors I don’t blame you for not remembering Fire Emblem. And I totally agree I’m sure they’ll end up showing a bit of game-play on Nintendo’s Treehouse live for Pokemon Ultra Sun and Moon. SUPER SUPER Excited for everything coming!!

With Fire Emblem Echoes having just released and Warriors on the way, the new Switch FE got lost in the wayside. If Nintendo showed off some of it this E3, I’m sure it would be on the forefront of everyone’s minds again!

Not forgetting Fire Emblem Heroes. It’s only a mobile title in the Fire Emblem series but admittedly I am so addicted that there’s not a day that doesn’t go by without me playing. I’ve noticed that Nintendo and Intelligent Systems have also been pumping out updates, character events and battle events constantly for the game. It’s really nice to see such support months after launch on a mobile title.

I’ve been playing Fire Emblem Heroes, but very casually. I still dislike the gacha summoning system, so I mostly just go in with my current team to play the new story chapters. It’s good they’re supporting it!
LikeLiked by 1 person
I have to say I disliked the gacha system originally (and HATE it still sometimes) but when I summon characters such as Ryoma, Robin and Roy it then feels worth it. The thing that intrigues me the most however is the number of events that they have, especially the Voting Gauntlet. I also have to admit that I get a thrill when I’m about to summon, its that excitement of not knowing what you’re about to get.

It’s a thrill to get what you want, but it’s just unfortunately not favorable for everyone. I’ve gotten lucky with a few pulls, but it’s hard to endure so much disappointment with most pulls. Kind of discouraging at least for me, but I’m glad you’re getting a lot out of it!
LikeLiked by 1 person
Lol actually I know exactly how you feel, I’ve actually felt the same way a little while back before pulling Ryoma (my fav character from Fire Emblem Fates). You see a friend of mine that started the game literally a month after me pulled triple the amount of five star heroes than myself and majority of them were actually heroes that were useful in battle. It put me down a bit but I kept pushing on and now focus more on the events rather than the summoning, however once I acquire 20 orbs I do try and summon a set immediately and then focus on the game again. But I fully understand where you’re coming from.
LikeLiked by 1 person
I would be willing to put in a higher number of orbs for a guaranteed 5-star or at least the character I want. But when special timed promotions like the bridal blessings happen, and I use up my stored 100 orbs only to get nothing, it kind of puts me off… I like the idea of it, which I stated in my review, but my issues with the gacha summoning prevent it from fully being a great game for me. I still like playing from time to time though.
LikeLiked by 1 person
I have to admit, I’ve not really spent a 100 orbs at a time, I’m usually spending them as soon as they hit 20 so perhaps I’ve been saved heart ache in that aspect. However I recently switched mobile phones from Android to iOS and thought my orbs I had saved up would switch as well and to my surprise I lost all 60..yes 60 orbs 😦 sadly it dampened my spirits for a few days but after that I still had my previous characters that I summoned I felt a little better. But yes I have to agree this mechanic does really hold this game back from being great 😦
LikeLiked by 1 person
Ouch! I almost considered switching from iOS to Android, but ended up keeping my iPhone. I would have lost my 100+ orbs! I’d put in 100 orbs to get my choice of one person and probably wouldn’t mind that. It would certainly beat never getting some of my favorites like Lyn.
LikeLiked by 1 person
It was my fault at the end of the day I felt though. If I did not procrastinate and just summoned my usual way after receiving 20 orbs, the characters I would have summoned with the 60 orbs would have transferred over as well. Aaaah well no use in crying over spoilt milk though and just have to keep pushing on now. That is a good mechanic though that perhaps should be suggested to Nintendo and Intelligent Systems although if they allowed us to do that then the gacha system would become obsolete within the game.

Yea, I know perfectly well why the gacha system is the way it is, and I bet it makes a lot of money in Japan where the series is even bigger. It doesn’t always translate well here though.
LikeLiked by 1 person
Sadly that is the way the gacha systems work I guess and I’ve seen a few people spending a fortune on Orbs in this game. I have to say even though I love the game to bits, I’ve not spent a penny on it.

nice predictions outside of the usual Metroid Prime stuff. I’d definately want smash bros deluxe but I want Solid Snake back.
I like the idea of theming a donkey kong game as hot and cold switches given it could be on the Switch. I would eat up an animal crossing game for sure. Nice vid!!
I like an idea of metroid being 2.5D, with side scrolling and 3d/first person segments. I personally thought Other M was good, so that could be the basis of it. Oh nice touch having the Phendrana Drifts music playing, love that song

Thank you for your comments, and I’m happy you enjoyed the video! 🙂 I would love Solid Snake back for the same reason I want Ice Climbers back. It’s a different character with an original moveset that was taken away. And I like having “definitive” games that include everyone that was ever in the series. Not to mention that Solid Snake was a great character in Brawl.
I had a very Switch theme on my mind when making these predictions about switching between two planes or climates, even though that’s not really what the system is about. It would still be neat, especially something to please both 2D and 3D Metroid fans. I’m glad you enjoyed the music choice! 🙂
Bottom line is I want these franchises to show up on Switch!

Yea Solid Snake had such a fun moveset for me that would annoy everyone I faced. Very unorthodox. In Smash 4, snakes moves pop up in a few different characters like duck hunt and zero suit samus’s smash special, but I still want snake, his moves hit harder. He was very strong.

Agreed, there’s also that special quality of being a genuinely different character than the others. It’s why I don’t like the clones like Dark Pit as much. I can see why he wasn’t included in Smash 4, and perhaps why he won’t be included in future Smash games, but we can dream. 🙂 At the very least, I hope Konami brings someone else in, like Simon Belmont or Bomberman.

Great video and write-up! It took the video for me to realize purple is not a part of the rainbow spectrum! I’m hopeful for Smash Bros. Deluxe (even though I don’t have a Switch yet). I’m also moderating my expectations because Nintendo’s E3 presentations are a bit of a roulette, but I really look forward to your coverage of it!

Thanks a lot! Violet is a part of the rainbow, which I know is different from purple. Anyway, the rainbow is probably the furthest thing on my mind while thinking about E3 at this point, haha. Glad you’re looking forward! I’m excited, even if it’s just Super Mario Odyssey! I say “just” but I’m still anticipating it a lot!

Cool idea for Animal Crossing. I’d love to see a new one on the Switch, but definitely want it to do something a bit new. That’s a neat idea. I’d gladly take another DKC game. Tropical Freeze was incredible. I would like to see Retro work on something new though so maybe have another developer tackle it as you suggest.

Thanks! The bottom line is that I would love all these franchises to hit the Switch. The system is what I’ve wanted from Nintendo for a while, and this is the perfect chance to reintroduce these series for gamers who missed out on the Wii U. Substantial updates are always appreciated too! So excited to see what Retro is working on either way, and I honestly wouldn’t mind if they were working on something new. Thanks so much for your comments!

As you can imagine I’d love for your prediction for Animal Crossing to be true. It would make perfect sense, business sense too. It would bring a whole group of fans to the Switch that are waiting it out right now, unsure if the games on the Switch are worth it!

Animal Crossing would be so perfect on the Switch! I can’t help but feel that Nintendo is planning on it already, based on how well the series is doing in Japan. I loved New Leaf, but at the same time have wanted a new console AC game. With the Switch, we can have both! 😉

Great predictions! I really hope Final Fantasy XV does land on the Switch. It will be such a “come back home” moment, I feel. The series did start with Nintendo after all. Would definitely love to see Animal Crossing and a new Metroid on the Switch. And I’ll definitely take what you’ve described over a Metroid Prime: Federation Force type game any day. Just give us Samus for God’s sake. Haha.
I won’t be watching this live, since it will start at 12 midnight on a workday, but I’ll be sure to check out your stream if you have a VOD of it 🙂 I don’t know why, but I just love watching people’s reaction to video game news.

Thank you very much and yes to everything you said! The fans want Samus, and I think Nintendo knows that. I’m so excited for the presentation, even if it just ends up being Super Mario Odyssey. I still hope for at least one or two surprises like we predicted or something we couldn’t predict! Our video won’t be live, but we’ll post our immediate reactions right after. I hope you enjoy it when we post it! Thanks a bunch for the subscription! 😀

I wish they would announce a port of Tokyo Mirage and Xenoblade for the Switch. That would be enough to tempt me into buying the system.

I’d love a port of either of those games, since I didn’t beat either. Xenoblade might have a chance since its sequel will be coming soon. Maybe it can be a bonus disc or download along with Xenoblade 2.

Yes! I really think an Animal Crossing game would be perfect, and I’m expecting one at some point, whether soon or later in the system’s life. It just fits the Switch so well! And I know now how much you love DKC, so I hope Nintendo keeps the series going on Switch too!

I don’t think the video game gods will give us anything about a release date for the FFVII Remake, but I would like to hear some news! Like…maybe Squeenix will do what they did with WOFF and have the option of Japanese with English subtitles. That…would be amazing. I’m sorry I’m going to probably be at work while Sony is presenting, and I’m running low on data so I can’t even listen to it there *tears*
