Introducing My YouTube Channel!

Pandas at Play!

It’s official! I am so excited to finally announce my new YouTube Channel – Pandas at Play! You can find it here! https://www.youtube.com/mrpanda2002

My awesome wife (Crystal Dragon) and I are co-running the channel, and we’ll be producing fun Nintendo video content, including:

  • Reviews – Edited video review versions of the stuff I’m already doing here! Don’t worry, I’ll still be posting written reviews. My goal is to have the videos supplement my content here. The first review is posted below!
  • Pandas at Play – A series where my wife and I play through Nintendo games together, letting our ridiculously silly personalities shine! Our first episode is posted below!
  • Discussions – Podcast-like dialogues, sometimes with guests, in which we discuss games we’ve played, upcoming games, or anything else related to the pasttime we love!
  • And more! Right now, the sky’s the limit for us! We’re looking to see what we can do and how we can better entertain and inform you with our fun Nintendo videos!

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Video Review

Without further ado, I am proud to present the premiere video, one that I have worked hard on for the last few weeks. Here is my video review of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild for the Nintendo Switch!

This is a spoiler-free review, and there is no video footage of any major plot points. Hope you enjoy it!

Pandas at Play – Snipperclips Co-Op Part 1 – Stabby Sticks

Also premiering today is our first episode of Pandas at Play, where my wife and I tackle the first few stages of the ridiculously goofy and fun Snipperclips for the Switch!

We’ll be playing through the whole 2-player campaign of Snipperclips and uploading episodes on Mondays. Our goal is to produce video content biweekly, ideally on Mondays and Thursdays. We’re planning to post Pandas at Play episodes on Mondays (starting April 10) and other additional content on Thursdays. In the future, we’re hoping to post three times a week (Mon-Wed-Fri). We actually have a second, equally fun Pandas at Play game that we’re playing through. It’s a much longer game, and we’re planning to use it as our third weekly video.

Please check out our videos and let us know what you think here or on the video comments section!

Channel Origins

This YouTube Channel, as you have probably guessed, is the project I’ve been teasing for some time now. I’ve been hard at work developing this channel for the last few months, sometimes even losing sleep over it. There have been a lot of hardships during this process, and I’ve spent a lot of time developing new skills as a result of this endeavor. I’ve been especially antsy this week and am filled with glee that I’m finally sharing my videos!

I never planned on doing YouTube videos when I first started this blog. I’m a very shy, introverted person, and for my whole life, I’ve been convinced that my voice is secondary and generally unimportant. My wife, CrystalDragon, helped give me the courage and encouragement I needed to keep going both for this site and for the videos. I owe all of this to her, and I’m extremely glad that she will be a huge part of the channel. Thank you for showing me that my voice matters and helping me know that I matter. You’re the best!

Special Thanks

I also wanted to give a huge thanks to my close friend christianrob90 for all of his assistance in planning this channel and getting it ready! He was an instrumental part in both starting up this channel and for helping me learn how to do it. He’s also been a great friend and support, and you’ll hear him in some videos in the future. Couldn’t have done it without him!

And a tremendous debt of gratitude to another close friend, Cherry, who is playing a big part in giving the channel its personality. Thanks so much for your support and creative assistance! I can’t wait to show you what she has cooked up!

Thank you so much everyone who’s ever supported me by checking out what I’ve done and encouraging me through your messages and friendship. As I’ve said before, you truly are a wonderful community, and we want to invite you to our gaming lives. I hope you enjoy my newest foray, and as always, I hope you will continue to support me. You all rock!

Super_Mario_64_Cake

Finally, I’ve been telling some of you that I would subscribe after watching your great videos too, and that I needed to get my account ready. Truth be told, it was a complicated route figuring out what kind of account I was going to use before I settled on my own personal Mr. Panda account. I’m very happy to say I can subscribe with the account I will watch them in, and I will do that as soon as possible. If you have a channel you’d like to share with me too, please let me know, and I’d be happy to check it out!

Thank you again from the bottom of my heart for your support, everyone! We’re not sure where this endeavor will take us, but we’re excited to get on board either way! I sincerely hope you check out our videos! Let us know what you think! And most importantly, enjoy!

  1. We are super duper excited about this YouTube channel! Mr. Panda has invested countless hours of hard work to make this possible. I couldn’t be more proud! This is my first time being involved in a project like this. It’s like jumping off the Great Plateau for the first time into an uncharted land. Mr. Panda did an amazing job on his Zelda: Breath of the Wild Review (and it’s spoiler free!). We had a blast playing SnipperClips. We did our best to make it a silly and entertaining experience. And there’s more where that came from. Please check out our videos! We hope you enjoy them!

    1. What my wonderful wife said! 🙂 And thanks so much for your awesome loving words and support. I’m so happy to be doing this with you. And I can’t wait to show the world our fun gaming sides! You’re my perfect partner, both in gaming, and in love. ❤

  2. This is super exciting news! I’ll definitely subscribe and consistently enjoy the content you dish out 🙂 I sort of envy/admire you as I want to do the same thing but I’m not much of a content creator, more of a writer to be honest. But after watching your Zelda review, I can tell that you were made for this! Congratulations on this monumental achievement 🙂

    1. Aw, thank you so much! Your kind words truly mean a lot to me! Honestly, I didn’t think I was a “content creator,” at least not a video one. It took a lot of convincing and encouragement to finally get me going. I also had to learn a lot of skills, which was beyond my scope. In the end, I ended, I found myself liking it. I’m not comfortable speaking for periods of time, so that you think I was made for this is actually making me blush! Seriously, thank you! And we’re both so thankful that you’ll subscribe and enjoy what we got! I wish you the best of luck in your endeavors, and I encourage you to do what you think is best for you and can make you happy. You never know. I surely didn’t. Thanks again! 🙂

      1. Your work and attitude are exceptionally inspirational, and I’m extremely happy that there’s a new vessel for your content. It’s definitely something I may try in the future, but I first need to get a hang of this WordPress thing as I’m still learning. I look forward to all of your future endeavors, for your content on both WordPress and YouTube 🙂 I’ll have to watch your SnipperClips Let’s play next! What an exceptional game too by the way!Couch co-op at its finest 😀

      2. Thank you for those kind words! I’m definitely still learning too, but if it’s any encouragement to you, the conception between the idea and the channel was a little less than 3 months, and that was before BotW was even confirmed for March 3? Haha. So if it’s something you want to do in the future, it’s definitely possible! Regardless, I thank you so much for your readership, viewership, and support! I will continue to read your awesome posts on WordPress as well! I hope you enjoy Snipperclips! It’s definitely different from most of what I do on WP, but maybe it’s because I haven’t really shown people how silly I am when gaming with my wife. And I agree that Snipperclips is a perfect game to show off that couch co-op goofiness. 😀

  3. 1st comment here too! Lol! Hey Mr Panda congratulations on seeing the fruit of your labors! I wish you the best and hope your channel explodes (in the good, traffic-drawing kind of way). Here’s some feedback: I listened to your Zelda vid and I don’t usually listen to YouTube reviews because I can’t stand the obnoxious cadence that some people put into their voices to make themselves sound over-excited. I appreciate that you didn’t do that. You have an even-ness and calmness to your tone that is enjoyable for me to listen to. You sound informative rather than over-hyped. Keep up the good work! *sniff* They grow up so fast!!

      1. Haha, actually, a spam filter picked up a spam comment from a bot before your YouTube comment too, but Internet be darned, you were the first commenter in my heart! 🙂

        Liked by 1 person

      2. A big yes to the first two, and I also enjoy just spam and rice on its own. I’ve never had spam stir fry, but it sounds delicious and I might have to try it now. Yup, confirmed. Totally Twintendos!

        Liked by 1 person

      3. Did you grow up in the States? Spam isn’t too popular on the mainland US, it seems, but in Hawaii you could get it at McDonalds. If that’s too personal, no worries on answering. It’s just rare for me to find that someone else likes spam! Try that stir fry! Oh and spam ramen too.

        Liked by 1 person

      4. I grew up in the states, but not Hawaii. But my wife and I love Hawaii. We went there on our honeymoon, and yes we did enjoy spam musubi there. We knew it was at McDonalds but I think we just got spam musubi at other places. My family used to cook spam a lot which is why I’m so accustomed to it. I ate it often with rice. So nowadays, my wife and I cook food with spam in it occasionally, particularly spam fried rice, spam musubi (yes we cook it every now and then!), and just spam with rice. But I bet she would love spam stir fry and spam ramen!

    1. Thank you Well-Red Mage! I appreciate your well-wishes, your congrats, and your feedback! It means so much to me that you’d subscribe and check out the stuff we have. Honestly, I was really nervous recording that, so maybe that’s why I sounded calm. But either way, I will definitely try to continue that if that worked for you. I want the channel to be a balance of informative calmness and the kind of wackiness that happens when my wife and I are together in the room. We both sincerely hope that we can make content that you’ll enjoy! From the bottom of my heart, thanks so much for your support!

      1. I think that’s a great balance to achieve. I think audio reviews should sound the way you’ve done yours and let’s plays are more appealing if they’re livelier, of course. Your tone in your review reminded me of the Gaming Historian, who has a channel and cadence I love. I know you’ll succeed ultimately as you continue to be yourself. Uniqueness is something YouTube needs!

      2. Thank you! I will certainly be going for that voice in future reviews then! It’s been hard for me to get used to hearing my voice, which is part of why I didn’t know what I should go for. I had an original audio draft that was nervous as heck, so props to my wife for having me rerecord it. And thank you for the encouragement! There’s a lot of work ahead of us, but we hope to make content that is both unique and enjoyable!

      1. Funny story on the topic.. I tried making a video of myself doing a “Thrift Store Pickup” and I spent about an hour on the intro – I couldn’t get past “hi, I’m Geddy” because of how weird I get when I see myself on camera.

That being said, as a fellow introvert, BRAVO on being able to get through even a single video!!

        Liked by 1 person

      2. I’m glad you understand! I know there’s probably other introverts speaking well on YouTube, but recording myself speak is really new and scary to me. I get nervous as soon as I start every time still, and sometimes even midrecording, so then I need to take a break. Hopefully, I can warm up to it over time, but I’m so glad I at least got through these videos, haha! Still weird hearing myself talk though. Thanks for your encouraging words! 🙂

  4. Whoa whoa whoa, wait a second. Are you telling me this channel doesn’t involve watching panda bears playing? Reporting your channel for false advertising. I don’t have my glasses on, but I do see a big red button below your banner. I’ll just assume that’s a report button and click it. Shame on you. 😐

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Yes that’s right, that red button. Press it. Red buttons are great. And hey maybe, if enough people press it, I can see what I can do about getting actual pandas on my channel (I wish) haha. Thanks! I mean, how could you press that red button?! Ah well, thanks for being an upright citizen! 🙂

We’ll definitely come to you if we have an specific questions. Thanks. 🙂

      4. Sounds awesome! I’d definitely watch you two play games! It’s great that you have a goal planned out. For let’s plays, I think it boils down to having good equipment, so as long as you have that for your recordings, it should work out. Please let me know anytime if you have any other questions and I’d be happy to help! 🙂

      1. Thanks so much Panda 🙏
People think recording videos and let’s play are so simple, and while it may be simple, it still involves time and effort, drive and motivation which aren’t as easy to get tbh.
I’m excited to see how much you grow, and have fun with your lovely wife! 🙌

      2. Thank you Cat! You’re so kind, and I loved your intro video. You seem so sincere and happy in it. I will definitely be checking out your playthroughs.

I agree with you though that it’s much harder than people think. Even let’s plays are difficult for me because you not only have to play somewhat decently, but you have to do it while talking. And if one comes hard to you, then it can go wrong. Everything outside that takes a lot of time and effort too. Honestly, the biggest motivation for me is that I personally have been making the videos. It’s been fun to both edit and play with my wife. My hope is that people can find joy in the way we play or produce content. Thank you for this lovely comment and may we both do our best!

It’s not even just talking, it has to either be funny, entertaining or at least have some value (be it in insight or dwelving deeper into a subject).
I’m sure you’re gonna ace it, Panda, I can tell how passionate and driven you’re about this! 👌🔥🔥🔥

      4. Very true! It’s talking with a goal of entertaining, which is tough. But I think being yourself is also important here, both for the sake of making the video and for people watching it. It takes a lot of effort for us to record, and if we weren’t ourselves (with a little exaggeration) in the videos, we’d burn out faster. Thank you so much! I appreciate your really kind words and awesome comments! 😀

It means a lot to me that you’d care about my surprise even though you had no idea if it’d be a worthwhile one. Thank you for that. Your excitement definitely kept me pumped up for this! 😀 We hope to make great videos that you can enjoy!

And you’re right about how hard it is to try something new. Everything here is somewhat out of my comfort zone, though I’m surprisingly enjoying what I’ve been learning. These skills that I’ve picked up are ones that I’ve always wanted to know but was never willing to branch out to. My motivation to go through with this pushed me to learn these skills, and I hope I can keep improving them to make great videos. I sincerely hope you enjoy them! 🙂

  8. I finally got to read this after some trials/tribulations with my notifications, and I loved the Zelda video (I just commented and liked). I’ll need to watch the rest of your videos hopefully this weekend. I wasn’t entirely right in my guess hehe. I was accurate on it being something on YT, but I was thinking it was something specific. I don’t want to say since you still have another surprise to reveal, and it may be what I was originally thinking of.

I think having a YT site to augment your blog is a great idea (and one I’m working on implementing myself). I often try to catch up on my blog subs at work and having a video I can listen to comes in handy if I’m in the midst of some busy work!

I’ve found it so funny that introverts often make the best videos. I think it’s because we know weird/awkward it can be to be in front of the camera or be recorded so we research, practice, and do all the right things (I’m currently trying to figure out what my intro and outro will be; nerve wracking), because we know we have to work at it. Or maybe it’s because I’m introverted, too, so I like the videos that a fellow introvert will make? Either way, It think you did a marvelous job, and I can’t wait to see what else the YouTube Pandaverse has to offer!

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Thank you so much for your like, comment, subscribe, all of that! It means a lot to me, and I’m so grateful for your support! 🙂 I’m very happy you enjoyed my Zelda review video! Your feedback really helped, and I’m glad I can bring enthusiasm, knowledge, and appreciation into the video review. I really want to bring something special into my videos, and knowing what helps me do that is so helpful! I definitely want to do more of those in the future, and incorporate them here.

I hope you enjoy Pandas at Play too. It’s my wife and I doing what we do best, which is being silly and fun while playing games. I think you’ll especially like our game of choice. It’s so wacky and funny. We laugh a lot during it. Definitely something that’s difficult to show without video content. 😉

I’m really curious about what you thought I was doing, because I was so convinced that you had it! I was hoping for a “I knew it!” post, haha. You definitely got the YouTube part right, if that was the biggest part of your guess. Though I’ve been teasing N64 stuff, my channel ideas changed a few times between conception and now. I’m still doing N64-related stuff, but it’s now going to be a much smaller, but still important, part of the channel. It won’t be ready for a while, but I still look forward to seeing if you got that part. Congrats on knowing that it was YT though! 🙂

I do think that introverts definitely have a lot more to overcome for videos. Not to say that extroverts don’t make good videos, but we tend to do extra things to make our video stand out beyond our introversion. I can tell you that I was a nervous wreck (still am sometimes) when I first recorded. And to be playing a game as well. Luckily, my wife literally held my hand while I recorded the review, so there’s definitely love in that one, haha. I think introverts like us can also like other introverts’ videos more because we see us in them.

Ooh, I’m excited to see what you have planned for YT too! I’d definitely watch your videos! 🙂 Good luck on figuring out stuff like intros, outros, and all that jazz. I’m still working through a lot of that stuff, and things are in the works, so I know there’ll still be changes to come. I just want to do my best to adapt well to them and keep improving. It’s tough to YouTube, definitely a lot of work to put together a good video. So I’m ecstatic that you enjoyed my first review video, and the both of us want to do our best to make videos that you can enjoy! 😀 Haha, I like the YouTube Pandaverse!

      1. I’ve been wanting to see Snipper Clips so I’m super excited to watch that!

I’ll DM you on Twitter in a bit, because I don’t want to give away the rest of what you said you were working on since you have more to announce! I was partially right that it involved YT, but I thought of a specific thing 🙂

I think extroverts probably find it easier to make videos because they tend to be outgoing. I’m one of those weird outgoing introverts, or rather I can act like one, so people often mistake me for an extrovert, which is so funny to me, because acting like I’m outgoing is soooo tiresome :p I’ve made a bunch of videos on my iPhone, so they need to be edited, but I do already have material to work with. One of my friends reads her stories on her YT and she’s bugging me to do the same hehe.

I really don’t think people understand how much work goes into editing a video. I’ve only done video slideshows as of now, but they can take a month if not more! You want to get the timing of the pictures right with the music. It’s very time consuming. I mean just running a blog is like having another job!

I think of it as the Pandaverse hehe. It kind of rolls off the tongue :p

        Liked by 1 person

      2. Yay! I sincerely hope you enjoy our Snipperclips playthrough! And I hope our quirky personalities come across. We wanted to share our gaming lives to you all, and I think the first Snipperclips video does a good job of showing that. I replied to your DM, and you’re actually right, in a funny sort of way; you’ll see why in the reply. But Pandas at Play will definitely be a Let’s Play series, surrounded by what will hopefully be other meaningful content.

I’m an introvert through and through. My wife is too, and that works for us. In public, we’re silent wallflowers. Together, we’re very silly though. And if you get me started on topics of games and a anime, I will go from 0 to 60 in no time at all. That’s partly why I think that I can do this channel. Because 1, my wife gives me a lot of confidence. And 2, because I can actually hold a conversation about games, haha.

I think introversion and extroversion determines what you want more and not necessarily what you can do. You can be an outgoing introvert, which would mean it tires you out more, and more often than not, you prefer that introverted lifestyle. That said, I’m so looking forward to seeing what you have!

And seriously, people don’t at all know how much work goes into editing a video. I didn’t before I started, but I knew that YouTubers worked very hard. Now that I’ve finally started editing, it’s a long, laborious process. But one that I’m enjoying, and also one that I hope goes somewhere. Thank you for being so awesome and supportive. I would not be doing this if I didn’t believe that there was an amazing audience here thy would actually be interested in hearing my real life voice. And thanks for understanding how much effort and time goes into this. I hope you enjoy our videos, reviews, let’s plays, and discussions. And that N64 thing I teased haha! I love the name Pandaverse! I might have to use it for something! 😉

      3. My husband is more extroverted, but I’m better in the social department lol. I think it’s because I’m more observant and/or more prone to overthink a situation and worry about being socially awkward. I’m very reluctant to talk about the things I love in person, which is why I love my blog and the WP community I’ve found, because I can just fangirl like crazy and no one seems bored or annoyed by it. It’s so refreshing. Having someone you can be silly with is the best thing ever, and I could see your personality even in the Breath of the Wild review, but then I’ve been following your blog for a while, so I have a decent idea of it 🙂

You should totally use Pandaverse! It just rolls off the tongue :p

I don’t like hearing the sound of my own voice but one quality that we share that I would have never guessed is that we both having soothing voices so that makes listening to your reviews very pleasant (and not for putting me to sleep either haha!).

      2. What a glowing compliment! I never thought much of my own voice particularly when I was young. Maybe it’s because voices sound different in your head compared to when you hear it in a recording. So I’m glad to hear that my voice is soothing (and not sleep-inducing, haha), and I’m proud to share that quality with you! 🙂

      3. Haha! You’re very welcome 🙂 I feel that way about my voice too. In my head, I don’t think I like the way it sounds but I do receive compliments about it fairly often and it was a major asset when I still worked as a professor so you have to take good genes where you can get them haha!

  10. Yay! I’m so excited for you! Congratulations! I just subscribed to your channel and I’m excited to watch your videos! I know what you mean about being introverted, I am the same way and I HATE the sound of my voice! I remember hating every time I had to get up in front of the class when I was a kid in school. Even now in my 30s, I hate answering phones and talking to people at work, haha! Something that helps me is just simply pretending that I am outgoing… I know that might sound weird, but it actually works! Most people are surprised to find out how introverted I actually am. Anyway, I know you have put a lot of hard work into your new channel and I can’t wait to see what else you and your wonderful wife come up with! 🙂

    1. Aww thank you so much for the kind words and the subscribe! I hope you enjoy our videos! We’re definitely doing our best to make content for others to enjoy. I definitely get nervous when speaking in front of others – apparently, the same applies when speaking in front of a mic. I think the only reasons I can speak so much here are that my wife is there with me, and that I love passionately talking about my hobbies. I also can act outgoing around friends, but I definitely get exhausted more easily, haha. I appreciate that you understand how much effort goes into this, and I hope you like what we have in store! 😀 Thank you again!

  11. I wish I could give you some tips as someone who has been doing the YouTube thing for a while… but based on how it has gone for ME… I’m not the one to be asking. Besides, it sounds like you’ve got plenty of people with better knowledge to help you out on it anyway. My only real suggestion here would be to have fun with it and don’t let it stress you out too much. If you’re doing it on the side as a more secondary thing then let it be a place to post things for fun rather than slowly turning it into a chore or a time-suck. I WILL watch the videos and most likely subscribe, I just need some time as I’m going through all these posts I missed right now, haha. I’m sure I could give plenty of content suggestions but you’re starting out so I’m sure you have plenty of things you’d like to explore already without external brainstorming. As for channel suggestions… well gee, I’m a selfish prick so I’ll say check mine out if you haven’t by now. I link the videos on all the written reviews here so it’s not too hard to find. And hey, if you need a special guest for a crossover or podcast or anything… I mean… I’m game. Not that I have much influence anywhere but… like if everyone else is busy that day and you need an extra voice to ramble on stuff… I can do that. Probably not what you’re looking to do, but I figured I’d throw it out there anyway. Good luck with the channel. I hope you have fun with it.

  12. So I’m glad to hear that my voice is soothing (and not sleep-inducing, haha), and I’m proud to share that quality with you! Having someone you can be silly with is the best thing ever, and I could see your personality even in the Breath of the Wild review, but then I’ve been following your blog for a while, so I have a decent idea of it 🙂
    You should totally use Pandaverse!

    1. Aww thank you! We’re working on showing off even more of our personality in some of our more recent on-camera videos, so hopefully it comes across even more! Being able to be silly with my wife makes it so much easier and more natural, so I’m truly thankful about that. Haha, the Pandaverse! Yes! 🙂
